Guide: Joining the forum

This is a quick tutorial to help new members to register and get started on the forum.
It explains how to register properly, choose an avatar, and post a introduction.

So here we go, step by step, with screenshots ...

01. Go to the forum and click on the register link in the menu

The first thing you need to do is register as a forum member.
This only takes a few minutes and it's very easy to do.
Start by clicking on the register link in the menu.



02. Fill out the obligatory form fields

A new page will open, where you'll get a form to fill out. You need to choose a username/pseudo and a password. You have to put your real name and birthday too. Make sure you enter you're email address correctly, as you'll need to recieve the activation email there. Don't forget to type the confirmation code correctly as well.



03. Fill out the optional form fields

Further down the page you then need to enter your messenger address if you have one, your country/location, occupation, interests, gender and your signature, that will be displayed at the bottom of every message you post.



04. Check the informations and submit it

When you're finished, check that all the informations are correct, and then click on submit. You'll then get a confirmation page saying that an activation email has been sent to you.



05. Find the email and click on the link

You now need to check your emails. Within a few minutes of clicking the submit button you should recieve an email from forum@danielclayton.com called "Welcome to DanielClayton.com Forums". Open the email and click on the link inside.



06. Your account is activated, now what?

Your account has now been activated. The next thing to do is login to the forum so you can choose an avatar and start posting! Click on the login link in the menu at the top of the page.



07. Login to the forum

A new page will open with two fields. Enter your username in the first one and your password in the second one, then click the login button.



08. Go to your profile

Now you're logged in, lets go to your profile! Click on profile in the menu.



09. Go to the avatar galleries

Scroll down to the bottom of the profile page and click on the "Show gallery" button.



10. Choose an avatar gallery

You'll then see a page with loads of pictures, they are avatars. The avatar that you choose will be displayed at the side of every message you post. You can choose different categories of avatars by using the selection box at the top of the page.



11. Choose an avatar!

Find an avatar that you like, and click on the little round radio button below it to select it. The scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the "Select avatar" button.



11. Save your profile

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click submit!



13. Back at the index, and ready to start!

You'll now come back to the main index, and you're ready to start posting! The first thing you should do is post a little introduction of yourself so that other people can get to know you and welcome you to the forum, so go to the introductions section.



14. Post your first message!

Once you're in a category, click on the new topic button at the top to post a new topic! Or if you're viewing a topic, click on the reply button at the top to reply to that specific topic. As you'll be posting an introduction first, you'll need to put a subject, something like "Hi, I'm new", for example, and a short message saying hi with a little information about yourself. Some good things to day are your name, age, where you live and what you like doing.



And there you go, finished! Welcome to forum life!
